Here’s an example of a cover letter you might write to accompany your medical assistant resume:

Dear Mr. Smith,

Though monitoring vital signs and drawing blood can seem like a routine task that comes with working at a medical office, I have used those skills to make St. John’s care more patient-centered, resulting in a 27% increase in overall patient satisfaction. I would be excited to bring the same skills and knowledge to the medical assistant position at Healthcare, Inc.

I pride myself on having excellent communication skills with both patients and other healthcare professionals, and I am committed to providing medical services with empathy and efficacy. My medical assistant skills include filing medical records, checking medical histories and ensuring a detail-oriented approach to work even on the busiest of days. With over six years of experience in the healthcare industry, I have benefitted thousands of patients and hundreds of doctors. I look forward to talking to you about how I can help your medical practice improve patient satisfaction rates and bring a better quality of care to every patient that comes through the door.

Tips for writing Your medical assistant cover letter using this example

The format of a cover letter format is simple as long as you follow these guidelines:

Start your cover letter with your contact information and make sure you include the hiring manager’s name at the top. Avoid generic cover letter introductions like “To whom it may concern”. From there, you’re going to divide your cover letter into three sections, following the medical assistant cover letter sample.

First paragraph:

Introduce yourself with a hook and list your best achievements. You need to hook the hiring manager from the very first sentence. Other job seekers may start out with a casual, “I am excited to apply to this job at Healthcare, Inc.,” but the hiring manager is going to see this sentence dozens of times a day. Instead, notice how the applicant immediately gets into his top experiences and achievements in his last job. This makes a great first impression and is key to writing an effective cover letter.

Second paragraph:

Give more information about how you’re the best fit for the job. Now that you’ve hooked the hiring manager in, you can give more information about your skills and knowledge of the field. Avoid going over all the information in your resume; instead, delve more deeply into why you’re so qualified. In the example, the applicant picks out one key trait: he strives to treat patients more effectively, bridging the gap between the doctor and the patient. This is something a recruiter is looking for and it can seriously improve your likelihood of getting the job. If you have more information you want to include here, then you can include it in bullet points below the paragraph or add additional paragraphs to your cover letter.

Third paragraph: Call to action

Lastly, you need to include a call to action. Mention that you hope to hear from the hiring manager about the job posting, and essentially ask for an interview. This is an important reason to have a cover letter in the first place; a professional resume will not allow you to ask for an interview, but a cover letter will.
